I have been teaching at Yuba City Charter School for three years. In addition to teaching in the regular classroom, I am the 8th grade class adviser, helping them to plan their graduation trip and ceremony. During the afternoons I serve as the Resource Specialist, helping our Special Needs students to meet their IEP goals as well as complete any necessary assignments and tests. Outside of school, I  enjoy crafts and anything outdoors. Also, I've recently acquired a love for painting. I am married and have a daughter and three beautiful granddaughters.

As a teacher, I have high expectations for my students. Moreover, I believe that each one is capable of meeting those expectations. My first desire is to see each student reach their full potential, not only as students, but as members of their respective communities. To that end, my aide and I do our best to expose the students to a variety of extracurricular experiences. We discuss current events, like the state of the economy, and design field trips that combine education with creative exploration.

As you know, our school functions on a point and level system. Since these are middle school students we took a slightly different approach to the point system. At the beginning of each day, students are given $100 dollars in play money, which is the equivalent of 100 points. Every few weeks the class has “paydays” and students then receive the full amount they have earned. As students loose points, they are required to “pay” the teacher an amount equal to the infraction. At the end of the quarter, students will be able to purchase items using the “cash” they have earned. Local community and business leaders have graciously donated such items as free food, discount coupons, etc. This has been a successful venture in terms of completed work and limiting behavioral issues; as students are more reluctant to give us “money”.

I am looking forward to the new and exciting possibilities awaiting us this year.
